VULNERABILITY SUMMARY

Certain HP printers are vulnerable to the Key Negotiation of Bluetooth (KNOB) attack. Data over Bluetooth can be intercepted, decrypted, and modified by an unauthorized local party.

Update the firmware for HP OfficeJet Mobile printers

Use the HP Smart app to check for and install printer firmware updates.

Install the app on your computer or mobile device.
After completing the printer setup, click or tap your printer name or icon.

note:
Menu names, locations, and available settings vary by printer model.
Under Advanced, select Advanced Settings, and then click or tap Tools.
Click or tap Printer Updates, and then select Firmware Updates.
Under Check for Printer Updates, click or tap Check Now. The HP Smart app checks for and updates any outdated firmware.

Update the firmware for HP Sprocket printers

Use the HP sprocket app to update the firmware for your Sprocket.

Make sure the Sprocket is on and your mobile device is connected to the Internet.
On your mobile device, open the HP sprocket app.
Tap the Menu icon , and then tap sprocket.
Tap Manage Printers, make sure your Sprocket is selected, and then tap Printer Settings.
Under the Status section, locate Battery.
- If the battery charge is 25% or higher, continue with these steps.
- If the battery charge is 24% or lower, charge the battery for at least 30 minutes, and then continue with these steps.
In Printer Settings, look for a firmware upgrade.
- If a firmware upgrade displays, tap Get Firmware Upgrade, and then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.
- If a firmware upgrade option does not display, the firmware is up-to-date.

Operating system update

For certain HP Sprocket models, mentioned in the table below, an operating system patch will need to be applied to remediate the issue. Please follow the instructions below from your device vendor (tablet or mobile device):
