HP3845 won't pull paper; I have to feed one piece at a time.

My old, trusty, basic HP3845 won't feed or pull paper any more. I have to sit by it and feed paper into it one piece at a time which is a real PITA, and even then it only works and grabs it if you feed it just right at the exact right moment. Please advise. I love this printer and don't want to change it as it still works and prints.
